Do LED Light Therapy Masks Really Work?

How LED Light Therapy Works

LED light therapy masks use different wavelengths of light, most commonly red and near-infrared, to gently penetrate the skin. Red light is generally associated with supporting a smoother, more even-looking complexion, while infrared light reaches slightly deeper for a soothing, warming effect.

What to Expect

LED light therapy is not an overnight fix. Like most at-home skincare devices, consistency matters more than intensity. Most people use their mask for 10-20 minutes, 3-5 times per week, and notice gradual changes in the look and feel of their skin over several weeks of regular use.

How to Use an LED Mask Safely

  • Cleanse your face first so light can reach clean skin.
  • Follow the specific time and distance guidance for your device.
  • Keep eyes closed or use the mask's built-in eye protection.
  • Don't layer with strong actives like retinoids right before use unless your dermatologist says it's fine.
  • Be consistent. A few sessions a week works better than one long session and then nothing for weeks.

Pairing LED With Other Tools

Many of our customers pair their LED sessions with a quick gua sha or microcurrent routine afterward, since clean, massaged skin can help products and light both do their job better.
